The Romanian tennis player Monica Niculescu made it to the third round of the US Open tournament, after winning to her fellow citizen Ana Bogdan, 6-2 3-6 6-3, in a demanding, changing match at Flushing Meadows, New York.
Monica (29 year-old, WTA #57) needed 2 hours and 24 minutes to snatch the victory from Ana Bogdan (24 year-old, WTA #108).
Monica Niculescu secured a USD 144,000 cheque and 130 WTA points, thus equaling her last year's result.
Her opponent in the 3rd round will be (as a first) the American tennis player Jennifer Brady (22 year-old, WTA #91).
Niculescu is the only Romanian left out of six tennis players at women's singles, after Simona Halep, Irina Begu, Mihaela Buzarnescu were defeated in the 1st round, and Sorana Cirstea and Ana Bogdan were made to leave the tennis court in the 2nd round.
