The National Transplant Agency (ANT) will pay a fee of 1,000 euros for establishing interconnection with similar international institutions and/or international organ exchange organizations, in 2025, reads a draft Government Decision put up for consultation by the Ministry of Health.
"The fee for establishing interconnection with similar international institutions and/or international organ exchange organizations is the membership fee of the FOEDUS - European Organ Exchange Association. (...) The payment of the fee provided for in art. 1 is borne from the budget approved by the Ministry of Health for 2025, through the National Transplant Agency, a unit subordinate to the ministry, fully financed from the state budget," the draft states.
According to the substantiation note, the National Transplant Agency is the only institution in Romania authorized to approve the export and/or import of organs for the purpose of performing transplant procedures, together with the other relevant authorities in Europe that are members of FOEDUS.
The FOEDUS - EOEO organ exchange platform also addresses major transplant emergencies: hyperimmunized patients, pediatric recipients and superacute organ rejections and represents "the only option that Romania has at this time for implementing the Memorandum of Understanding with the National Transplant Centre of the Italian Republic" in the field of lung transplantation.
