The National Association of Travel Agencies in Romania (ANAT) is asking the Government to appoint a state secretary at the Ministry of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism with a "direct" experience in tourism, a vital sector of the economy.

According to a press release of the ANAT sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday, the chosen person must be a professional in the tourism industry, a technocrat who knows in depth the challenges facing the private environment and who can implement real solutions for the development of this field.

"Romanian tourism is facing multiple problems that require a pragmatic and well-informed approach. Only a person with direct experience in the industry can understand the real needs of economic operators in the tourism and HORECA area, of investors and other actors involved. Appointing a leader from outside this field risks perpetuating a lack of direction and compromising tourism's potential to become a major economic engine," ANAT believes.

The National Association of Travel Agencies in Romania also believes that tourism is one of the few industries capable of quickly generating substantial revenues for the state budget. According to the association, attracting investment, creating jobs and promoting Romania as a tourist destination depend on a coherent strategy, led by a specialist. "The lack of a dedicated representation risks delaying the implementation of development projects and affecting Romania's international competitiveness," the same source says.

ANAT makes a firm appeal to the prime minister and the minister of economy to make the right decision for the future of Romanian tourism. "The appointment of a secretary of state from the industry, supported by the private sector, is an essential step to capitalize on the potential of this strategic sector," ANAT claims.

The National Association of Travel Agencies in Romania represents the interests of travel agencies throughout the country, promoting a competitive and sustainable environment for the development of tourism.
