NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte will be in Bucharest on Wednesday and Thursday, when he is scheduled to meet with President Nicusor Dan, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, President of the Senate, Mircea Abrudean, and the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Sorin Grindeanu, as well as with other officials, informs the Alliance's official website.
During his visit, Mark Rutte will take part in the NATO-Industry Forum, where he "will speak about the importance of increasing defence production and the value of close ties with the defence industry."
According to the cited source, the Secretary General will also meet with students at the University of Bucharest.
Prior to NATO's announcement, the Presidential Administration stated that President Nicusor Dan would receive NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace on Wednesday, during his first visit to Romania since taking office as head of the Alliance.
The welcoming ceremony is scheduled to take place around 1 p.m.
According to the same source, the visit of the NATO official takes place in the context of his participation in the NATO-Industry Forum (Bucharest, 5-6 November), an event dedicated to strategic dialogue with the defence industries of the allied states.
The President of Romania and the NATO Secretary General will attend the forum together on Thursday morning.
Discussions between President Nicusor Dan and the NATO Secretary General will focus on the threats facing the North Atlantic Alliance, particularly on the Eastern Flank, as well as on ways to enhance Romania's security and the Alliance's collective defence and deterrence capabilities.
