An impact study before taking any decision regarding a new ceiling extended to all Romanian products is absolutely necessary to correctly understand the implications in the functioning of the agri-food market in Romania, support the representatives of the association of small and medium-sized traders and those of the large commercial networks in Romania.

"In the context in which the Ministry of Agriculture communicated in the public space about the intention to operate a sixth ceiling - much more extensive than all the others and which would concern all Romanian products - the need for an impact study becomes critical. Carrying out a study is practically the only way to obtain clear information and evaluations, for all economic operators in the agri-food sector, about the implications that such a decision may have, both in the short term, and in the context of the common competitive market clearly expressed the opportunities, risks and responsibilities of the successive ceilings so that we do not all enter into an adventure with an extremely uncertain end", reads a press release of the National Association of Small and Medium-sized Traders in Romania (ANCMMR) and the Association of Large Retail Networks from Romania (AMRCR).

According to the same source, there is currently no evaluation or approximation of the concrete effects in the market for consumers, farmers, producers or retailers, nor the objective that such a measure could pursue.

The minister of Agriculture, Florin Barbu, announced, in the middle of this month, that they are working on the project regarding the limitation of the commercial addition to all products processed in Romania, noting that "there is an unfair commercial practice, so that there are Romanian products with a very high commercial addition, and the imported products have a very small commercial value."

He explained, at the Victoria Palace, that all categories of imported products that are not processed or slaughtered and are sold as raw materials will have a 5% commercial surcharge.
