Negative natural increase of the Romanian population, in September (INS)

The natural increase registered in Romania was negative in September 2021 (minus 6,988 people), as well as in September 2020 (minus 5,596 people), according to data published on Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

The number of live births was higher by 1,611 compared to the same month in 2020, while the number of people who died was 3,003 higher.

Also, the number of children under one year of age who died was three times higher in September 2021 than in September 2020.

In terms of marriages, INS data show that in September this year these increased by 3,508 compared to those recorded in the same month in 2020.

On the other hand, by final court decisions and according to Law no. 202/2010 in September 2021 by 51 divorces fewer than in September 2020 were pronounced.

According to the quoted source, in September 2021 versus August 2021, 583 fewer children were born, up to a number of 17,749.

In contrast, the number of deaths recorded this year, from month to month, was 24,737, of which 12,921 men and 11,816 women - with 3,949 deaths (2,015 men and 1,934 women) more. The number of deaths of children under one year of age, recorded in September 2021, was 92, increasing by five compared to August 2021.

In general, the natural increase remained negative (-6,988) in September 2021, the number of deceased persons being 1.4 times higher than that of live births.

In the first month of autumn this year, 15,913 marriages were registered at the civil status offices, 4,343 less than in August 2021, and the number of divorces pronounced by final court decisions and according to Law no. 202/2010 was of 2,158, increasing by 99, compared to the reference period, Agerpres informs.
