The new cogeneration power plant on the Petromidia platform underwent the first technological tests, with the commissioning of the turbines being attended by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of KazMunayGas, Askhat Khassenov, the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Romania, Yerlik Ali, the Chairman of the SAPE Board of Directors, Bogdan Stanescu, and the General Director of Calik Enerji, Temel Kotil.

Calik Enerji, the general contractor of the Petromidia new cogeneration plant, alongside Rompetrol Energy specialists, will continue the synchronization tests of the gas turbines with the National Energy System and the integration of the plant with the Petromidia Navodari refinery, a KMG press release said.

The investment is worth 164 million USD.

The cogeneration plant will generate more than 70 MW per hour and will provide the entire energy needs of the Petromidia refinery.

The use of SGT-750 gas turbines manufactured by Siemens is a first in Romania. The project is implemented through the Kazakh-Romanian Energy Investment Fund (KIEKR), established in October 2018 by KMG International (80%), a subsidiary of KazMunayGas, and the Society for the Administration of Energy Participations - SAPE (representing the Romanian state, 20%), with the main objective of implementing energy projects in Romania.

During his working visit to Romania, the KMG Chairman of the Board of Directors, Askhat Khasenov visited the Vega (Ploiesti) and Petromidia (Navodari) refineries, where he learnt about the production and financial results, as well as with the activity of Rompetrol fuel stations.
