The heat wave will persist on Tuesday in Bucharest and in 14 counties in the south, east, and southwest of the country, where maximum temperatures will reach 38-41 degrees Celsius, and the thermal discomfort will be particularly intense, while the temperature-humidity index (THI) will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units.
According to the National Meteorological Administration, the counties of Mehedinti, Gorj, Dolj, Olt, Valcea, Arges, Teleorman, Giurgiu, Dambovita, Prahova, Buzau, Ialomita, Calarasi, Ilfov, and the municipality of Bucharest will be under a Code Red warning for extreme heat between July 8 at 10:00 AM and July 9 at 10:00 AM. Nighttime minimum temperatures will range between 21-23 degrees Celsius, thus constituting a tropical night.
In Bucharest, the heat wave will persist and intensify until Wednesday morning, with extreme heat, high thermal discomfort, and tropical night conditions continuing. The temperature-humidity index (THI) will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. The maximum temperature will be around 40 degrees Celsius, while the minimum will be 21-22 degrees Celsius. The sky will be variable, with cloud cover at night, when there will be a high probability of showers, thunderstorms, and short-term wind intensifications.
Additionally, during the same time frame, a Code Orange warning for scorching heat and high thermal discomfort will be in effect in southern Banat, central and southern Transylvania, eastern and southern Moldavia, northeastern Muntenia, and southern continental Dobrogea. In these regions, the temperature-humidity index (THI) will also exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. Maximum temperatures in these areas will range between 36-38 degrees Celsius, and the minimum temperatures will range between 16-20 degrees.
Meteorologists have also issued a Code Yellow warning for heat and high thermal discomfort, valid until Wednesday morning, for Crisana, Maramures, northern Banat and northern continental Dobrogea, northern and eastern Transylvania, and western Moldova. In these regions, the heat wave will persist with elevated thermal discomfort, and the temperature-humidity index (THI) will slightly exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. Maximum temperatures will range between 33-36 degrees Celsius, with minimums generally between 15-18 degrees.
According to the National Meteorological Administration, on Wednesday, the heat wave will decrease in intensity and will be present only in the southeastern extremity of the country.
