New EBRD Regional Director for Romania, Bulgaria on a visit to Bucharest

The new European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Regional Director for Romania and Bulgaria Mark Davis arrived in Bucharest on Monday, the EBRD informs in a release sent to AGERPRES.

The EBRD delegation, headed by Jurgen Rigterink, First Vice President and Head of Client Services Group, and Alain Pilloux, Vice President, Banking, touched down in Bucharest for talks with the authorities and the business community in Romania on the investment climate, the ways to boost the EBRD financing in Romania and also on the development of infrastructure and drawing of foreign investment.

The EBRD delegation during this visit will present Mark Davis, the bank's new Regional Director for Romania and Bulgaria, who is to start his mandate as of 1 April 2019.

The delegation also includes Charlotte Ruhe, Managing Director, Central and South Eastern Europe, and Matteo Patrone, who coordinated the operations in Romania and Bulgaria between 2015 and 2018, recently appointed the new managing director for Eastern Europe and the Caucasus.

EBRD is the main institutional investor in Romania, with over EUR 8.3 billion. In 2018, the EBRD invested more than EUR 400 million in various sectors of the Romanian economy, according to the bank's release.

The 3-day visit comprises meetings with Prime Minister Viorica Dancila, Public Finance Minister Eugen Teodorovici, and the central bank's Governor Mugur Isarescu. Moreover, the EBRD delegation will talk with representatives of the business community.

EBRD will continue to invest in Romania, including through corporate financing, public-private partnerships or project finance in infrastructure, in the privatisation of the state-run companies and the support of the SMEs. I am looking forward to the talks with the Government related to the reforms on the business milieu, in order to unlock Romania's investment potential, First Vice President Jurgen Rigterink said in relation to the EBRD delegation's visit.
