Romania supports the efforts of the United States and the international community to resolve global conflicts, including in the Middle East, President Nicusor Dan said on Thursday, adding that he remains a strong supporter of U.S. - EU transatlantic cooperation based on constant and open dialogue.
"I spoke today in Washington at the inaugural Board of Peace meeting chaired by the U.S. President Donald Trump. Without peace and security, there can be no prosperity for our citizens. In this regard, Romania supports the efforts of the U.S. and the international community to resolve global conflicts, including in the Middle East, and our presence as an observer in the Board of Peace allows us to be part of the talks and negotiations," the president wrote on Facebook.
He referred in particular to how Romania can contribute to addressing the situation in Gaza.
"How can Romania contribute? First, as far as the humanitarian situation in Gaza is concerned, we can increase the number of flights evacuating sick children for treatment in Romanian hospitals. We have already done this, and we can provide assistance for 1,000 children and 4,000 family members. Second, we can offer valuable expertise in emergency response systems such as ambulance and fire services, and help rebuild these systems, including through equipment donations. Third, we already offer scholarships to Palestinian students and we can expand this program, while also contributing to the reconstruction and rehabilitation of schools in Gaza. Fourth, and I believe this is the most important, we have institutional experience. We can contribute to rebuilding institutions such as the police, judiciary, and public administration. We have traditionally good relations with both the Israeli and Palestinian peoples, which is an advantage," Nicusor Dan said.
Romania is determined to strengthen its relations with its traditional strategic allies and partners, the president added, noting that the current international context requires reinforcing these ties.
"I remain a firm supporter of the U.S. - European Union transatlantic cooperation based on constant and open dialogue. This balanced approach brings the greatest benefits to our country, for which freedom, democracy, and the rule of law remain fundamental principles," Nicusor Dan stated.
