President Nicusor Dan declared on Wednesday that he will very likely sign the decree appointing Lia Savonea as head of the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ), noting that he has read "some complaints" that have been made to him and, from a legal point of view, are unfounded.
"In the event that Mrs. Corbu does not change her mind, Mrs. Savonea will take over (the mandate as ICCJ president - editor's note) on August 1," said Nicusor Dan, at a press conference, when asked about the fact that the SCM appointed Lia Savonea to lead the ICCJ and that there is also a deadline by which she should take over the position.
Asked if he had signed the decree, if he had made a decision, the head of state replied: "Not yet, but very, very likely I will sign, yes."
"So, to be more precise: I read some complaints that were made to me, and from a legal point of view I found them unfounded," added Nicusor Dan.
On June 23, the Section for Judges of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) decided to appoint Judge Lia Savonea as President of the High Court of Cassation and Justice.
