A total of 71,420 housing units were built last year, by 3,604 more (+5.31 percent) compared to 2020, according to provisional data released on Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
The share of housing completed in urban areas dropped from 62.3 percent in 2020 to 59.5 percent in 2021, while the weight of housing in rural areas advanced from 37.7 percent in 2020 to 40.5 percent in 2021.
By funding sources, the number of housing units built on private funds picked up in 2021 (+3,735), while that of housing units built on public money was down (-131).
According to statistical data, 21,799 housing units were commissioned in Q4 2021, by 2,473 more compared to the same period in 2020; 55.6 percent of these homes were built in urban areas.
Also, the number of housing units built on private funds was by 2,618 higher compared to the same period in 2020, but the number of housing units built on public funds dipped by 145.
