As of 6 October 2025, the National Bank of Romania (BNR) will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a gold coin, a silver coin and a coppered tombac coin to mark the Centennial of the Romanian Patriarchate, the Central Bank informs in a press release on Friday
The obverse of the gold coin represents a depiction of the scale model of the National Cathedral, the inscriptions 'ROMANIA' and 'CATEDRALA NATIONALA' each in an arc, the year of issue '2025', the coat of arms of Romania and the face value '500 LEI'.
The obverse of the silver coin shows a depiction of the scale model of the National Cathedral, the inscriptions 'ROMANIA' and 'CATEDRALA NATIONALA' each in an arc, the year of issue '2025', the coat of arms of Romania and the face value '10 LEI'.
The obverse of the coppered tombac coin illustrates a depiction of the scale model of the National Cathedral, the inscriptions 'ROMANIA' and 'CATEDRALA NATIONALA' each in an arc, the year of issue '2025', the coat of arms of Romania and the face value '1 LEU'.
The reverse (common to the gold, silver and the coppered tombac coins) represents an image of the Patriarchate Palace, seat of the Romanian Patriarchate, and the inscription 'PATRIARHIA ROMANA'.
The gold and silver coins are housed in transparent plastic capsules and are accompanied by booklets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue and certificates of authenticity in Romanian, English and French. The certificates of authenticity bear the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.
The coppered tombac coins are housed in transparent plastic capsules, being embedded in presentation leaflets inserted in cardboard holders.
The maximum mintage of the gold coin is 1,000 coins, whereas those of the silver and coppered tombac coins are 5,000 coins each.
The selling prices are as follows: lei 23,000.00, VAT excluded, for the gold coin, including the presentation booklet and the certificate of authenticity;
lei 630.00, VAT excluded, for the silver coin, including the presentation booklet and the certificate of authenticity; lei 250.00, VAT excluded, for the coppered tombac coin, including the presentation leaflet and the cardboard holder.
The gold, silver and coppered tombac coins marking the Centennial of the Romanian Patriarchate are legal tender on the territory of Romania.
These coins will be put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanta, Craiova, Iasi and Timisoara.
