The number of companies and authorised individuals (PFA) entering insolvency in the first ten months of 2025 was 5,318, down 9.8% compared with the same period in 2024, when 5,896 insolvencies were recorded, according to data published on the website of the National Trade Register Office (ONRC).
Most insolvencies were registered in Bucharest, with 912 cases, a decrease of 13.39% compared with the first ten months of 2024.
Following Bucharest, the counties with the highest number of insolvencies were Bihor with 524 cases (up 7.82%), Cluj with 354 (down 11.06%), Timis with 323 (down 7.98%), Ilfov with 269 (up 17.98%), Iasi with 189 (down 23.48%), and Constanta with 181 (up 15.29%).
Conversely, the fewest insolvencies were recorded in Covasna with 20 cases (down 16.67% compared with January-October 2024), Harghita 21 (down 19.23%), Botosani 26 (down 45.83%), Teleorman 31 (down 36.73%) and Vaslui 31 (down 8.82%).
By sector, the highest number of insolvencies was in wholesale and retail trade, and the repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, with 1,141 cases (down 26.24% compared with the first ten months of 2024), followed by construction with 1,001 (down 17.41%), transport and storage with 583 (down 5.05%), and manufacturing with 546 (down 21.55%).
In October 2025 alone, 620 insolvencies were registered, with the most in Bihor (112), Bucharest (79), Timis (48), Cluj (44), and Iasi (30).
