ONRC: 6,584 companies suspend their activity in first four months of year

The number of companies that suspended their activity in the first four months of 2025 was 6,584, down 13.3% compared to the same period in 2024, according to data published by the National Trade Register Office (ONRC).

The most companies that suspended their activity were from Bucharest, respectively 759 (a number down by 18.12% compared to the first four months of 2024), the Capital being followed by the counties of Cluj, with 411 suspended companies (minus 3.95%), Bihor - 301 (plus 3.83%), Iasi - 301 (minus 9.34%), Neamt - 277 (plus 13.99%), Sibiu - 265 (minus 3.28%), Brasov - 265 (minus 24.07%) and Timis - 251 (minus 21.56%).

At the opposite pole, the fewest suspensions of activity were recorded in the counties of Caras-Severin - 38 (minus 42.42% compared to January-April 2024), Covasna - 43 (minus 10.42%), Ialomita - 44 (minus 0.20%), Teleorman - 46 (minus 25.81) and Mehedinţi - 50 (minus 20.63%).

The largest increases in the number of suspensions of activity were recorded in the counties of Gorj (38.46%), Calarasi (19.72%), Neamt (plus 13.99%) and Bacau (plus 12.1%), while the most significant decreases were recorded in the counties of Dambovita (minus 56.68%), Caras-Severin (minus 42.42%), Bistrita-Năsăud (minus 35.43%) and Brăila (minus 32.91%).

By activity area, the largest number of suspensions was recorded in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, respectively 1,042 (minus 40.69% compared to January-April 2024), construction 440 (minus 38.38%) and in professional, scientific and technical activities - 424 (minus 45.22%).

For the month of April, 1,556 suspensions of activity were communicated, most in Bucharest (189) and in the counties of Cluj (101), Timis (77), Iasi (75) and Brasov (74).
