Teams Tor and Dark of the Oradea Robotics Club of the Faculty of Management and Technology Engineering (IMT) pulled off some remarkable achievements at the Yokozuna Robot Yusho international sumo robotics competition in Greece, notably the 1st and 2nd place in the Mega Sumo event, and 2nd place in the Humanoid Sumo event, respectively.

Team Tor made of third-year Robotics students - English language study program, and graduates of the IMT Faculty, took first place in the Mega Sumo competition with robot Afrodita, and 2nd place with robot Jon Bot Jovi.

The Dark team made of highschoolers passionate about robotics won 2nd place in the Humanoid Sumo competition with robots Arthiom and Johnny.

"What makes this achievement even more valuable is the fact that it was accomplished during an extremely busy period for all team members: one team leader sat the Baccalaureate exam, other members were in university session, but despite that they found time for training, construction, testing and participation in a top international competition," said Robotics Club coordinator, Associate Professor Flaviu Birouas.

The competition took place between July 4-6 at the Anatolia College STEM Center in Thessaloniki, Greece, and brought together participants from Turkey, France, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Belarus, Italy, Cyprus and Kenya, demonstrating the high competitive level and the internationalization of educational robotics.

Yokozuna Robot Yusho - International Sumo Robotics Competition is organized by the Hellenic Educational Robotics Organization (H.E.R.O.), bringing together every year top teams from Europe, Asia and Africa in a challenge of innovation, strategy and robotics applied engineering.
