Chairman of the PNL (National Liberal Party) Ludovic Orban on Monday announced that the Liberal MEPs are empowered by the Executive Bureau of the party to support Laura Codruta Kovesi's candidacy for chief-prosecutor of the European Public Prosecutor's Office.
"The Executive Bureau of the PNL decided to empower the PNL representatives to the European Parliament to support Mrs Laura Codruta Kovesi's candidacy for chief-prosecutor of the European Public Prosecutor's Office, a Romanian prosecutor with high chances of winning the race to hold this very important office at European level. Basically, our MEPs are empowered to make lobby at the European Parliament level, first of all at the EPP group level, and also to try to convince the MEPs from the other groups, who could be determined to support the candidacy of Mrs Codruta Kovesi. Moreover, our lobby will also target all the representatives from the EPP and European institutions who are part of this decision-making process," stated Orban, after the meeting of the PNL leadership.
According to a document recently released in the public space, Laura Codruta Kovesi has the greatest chance of becoming the next head of the European Public Prosecutor's Office, among the three candidates.
