Over 300 chess players from 14 countries will participate this Saturday and Sunday in the Craiova Grand Prix, held at the Polivalenta Hall in the city.

According to Craiova City Hall, the participants include ten male international grandmasters and one female international grandmaster, with highlights including Peruvian grandmaster Jose Eduardo Martinez Alcantara and the legendary five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand.

Public access is free, and the games can also be followed on screens specially set up in the hall.

The second event taking place at the Polivalenta Hall this weekend is the Grand Prix "Education Through Chess" Craiova, which brings together over 200 students in a competition organized in partnership with the Dolj County School Inspectorate, aimed at promoting chess among young people and supporting educational development through sports.

"Craiova once again proves that it is a city of performance and major international competitions. We look forward to having you be part of the spectacle of strategy and intelligence this weekend!," said Craiova Mayor Lia Olguta Vasilescu in a Facebook post.
