In the last two months, Brasov City Hall has had over 40 interventions in cases of bear sightings, Deputy Mayor Dan Ghita announced on Wednesday, at the Brasov Local Council meeting.

The issue of the intensification of this phenomenon was raised by USR councilor Sebastian Ichim, who stated that "many Brasov residents who go mountain hiking encounter bears more and more often".

"Let's take some measures, let's relocate them, because these encounters are increasing", stated the USR councilor.

In response, Mayor George Scripcaru stated that "the bear's owner is the Ministry of Environment", and the city halls are "victims" of this situation.

"We are victims of this situation and if we regulated it differently than scaring them with the trumpet, it would be better", said ayor Scripcaru.

According to Deputy Mayor Dan Ghita, two bears were extracted this year.

"According to already allocated quotas, we managed to extract two dangerous bears", specified the deputy mayor, who told the USR councilor that the real problem is not in the Postavarul Massif, but in the inhabited areas within the city.

According to assessments from April-May, there are over 1,500 brown bears in Brasov County.
