Over 42 tons of metal and plastic waste stopped at border

The border police officers from the Giurgiu - Ruse Border Crossing Point, together with the representatives of the National Environmental Guard, discovered, following controls carried out on some means of transport, irregularities regarding the transfer of more than 42 tons of metal and plastic waste.

According to a press release sent by the Territorial Inspectorate of the Giurgiu Border Police (ITPF), on Monday, July 15, at different time intervals, at the Giurgiu - Ruse Border Crossing Point, a Romanian and a Bulgarian citizen presented themselves on the way to enter the country, while being behind the wheel of some trucks.

"The drivers were transporting metal and plastic waste, from companies in Bulgaria, with Romania as their destination. There being suspicions about the legality of the two transports, our colleagues requested authorized support from the representatives of the Giurgiu County Police Department within the National Environmental Guard. Thus, in during the checks, it was established that there were 21,508 kilograms of metal waste and 21,144 kilograms of plastic waste in the means of transport. Proceeding to the verification and analysis of the accompanying documents, it was found that the two shipments do not meet the conditions of entry into the country, which is why the authorities the competent authorities did not allow the means of transport to access the territory of Romania," ITPF Giurgiu mention
