Over 44,000 citizens from 145 countries outside the European Union space have submitted their candidacy in the Annual scholarship program offered by Romania, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for the academic year of 2022-2023, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) informed on Wednesday, in a press release sent to AGERPRES.
Interested candidates uploaded their individual applications on the StudyinRomania online platform, during the period of December 20, 2021 and March 15, 2022, the results being to be announced on July 15.
For the 250 scholarships offered by the Romanian state there were 44,733 requests from candidates from 145 countries. Of these, 21,035 expressed their intention of following bachelor's degree, 19,819 - Master's degree and 3,879 - doctoral studies. The number marks an important increase from previous academic years, when 959 candidacy files were received (for 2020-2021) and 4,593 candidacies (for 2021-2022) the Ministry of Foreign Affairs specifies.
According to MAE, the new procedure of accessing the annual scholarship program has taken into account the need to adapt it to challenges generated by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the fundamental change in which citizens interact with public institutions, digitizing representing one of the priorities subscribed on the agenda of the European Union and Romanian Government.
Thus, the electronic submitting of candidacies was introduced, for foreign citizens that are interested in these scholarships and it was developed, with the help of the Executive Unit for Financing Higher Learning, Research, Development and Innovation (UEFISCDI) within the Ministry of Education, an online platform for uploading necessary documents, in English and French. For the first time, the new virtual platform is adapted to current tendencies and presents a multi-device capability interface of accessing information.
"Any investment in education is an investment for the future, and the Romanian Government, through MAE, is constantly acting for consolidating this instrument of granting scholarships to foreign students outside the European Union space. Given the success this program is benefiting from, I am convinced that it will contribute not only for better promoting higher learning institutions at a global level, but also for creating connection bridges between Romania and the students' countries of origin, as well as forming future intellectual elite," said the state secretary for inter-institutional relations, Janina Sitaru, quoted in the press release.AGERPRES
