Over 50 audiovisual productions of all genres - feature films and short films, animated films, fiction, documentaries, investigations and student films - are to be presented to the public Monday to Friday at the 22nd edition of the International Film and Television Festival SIMFEST Targu Mures.
"For a week, the public is invited to the Citadel and to the Mihai Eminescu Cultural Centre in Targu Mures where over 50 audiovisual productions will be presented, including numerous creations from the competition. Let's not forget that 83 productions from 23 countries, from all continents, were included in the official selection, after analysing 183 films submitted from 32 countries. Today, starting from 10:00hrs to 19:00hrs, at the Scena Theatre House in the Medieval Fortress, there will be screenings of the productions entered in the competition. In fact, every day during the festival, the films in the competition are presented at the Scena Theatre," the main organiser of the festival, Corina Ceausescu, chairman of the SIMFEST Cultural Association for the promotion of media and visual arts creators, told AGERPRES.
On this first day of SIMFEST, Monday, at 21:00, at the Mihai Eminescu Cultural Centre, the film 'Phoenix. The Story' directed by Cristian Radu Nema, a Romanian documentary film about the band Phoenix, which was issued in 2022 and marks 60 years of activity of the band led by Nicu Covaci.
"The film brings to the fore the moments of glory, challenges and artistic journey of Phoenix and includes unique archival images never seen in public, which gives us a unique perspective on the Phoenix phenomenon. The projections are logistically supported by UPFAR-ARGOA and DACIN-SARA", added Ceausescu.
According to her, films from Romania will be present at the festival through the 'Romanian Film Days' program and will consist of daily screenings, from Monday to Friday, at the Mihai Eminescu Cultural Centre.
"Tomorrow, for example, we have a film that writes history at SIMFEST, 'Enescu - Skinned Alive', directed by Toma Enache, the first artistic feature film dedicated to the great composer George Enescu, the winner of 55 international awards for directing, best film, acting, scenography, cinematography, costumes and original music. The film has become a true cultural phenomenon and here it is at the SIMFEST International Film and Television Festival in Targu Murea. I can also say that this film received the Award for 'Outstanding Achievements in Cinematography' at the ARPA Festival in Los Angeles. If we have made you curious, we are waiting for you, on Tuesday, from 19:00hrs, at the Mihai Eminescu Cultural Centre. Admission is free. It is the 120th public screening of this film-event, which has already been seen by over 500,000 spectators and which, through emotion and artistic force, pays tribute to our brilliant composer, George Enescu."
Also running during the 22nd edition of SIMFEST will the films "Wonder Coach," directed by Florin Anghel, "The New Year That Never Came" - directed by Bogdan Muresan, "Mother & Memories of My Childhood " - directed by Elisabeta Bosta. The opening of an exhibition "The Magic of Film" with old film posters and figurines embodying film characters will also be announced.
On Thursday, at the Small Hall of the Palace of Culture in Targu Mures will be organised a tribute gala, "In Memoriam Ioan Ceausescu", the founder of SIMFEST.
On the last day of the festival, a matinee will be organised at the Sangeorgiu de Mures Cultural Centre, a visit to the Mariaffi Castle, where the hosts will be writers from Sangeorgiu de Mures: Ilarie Opris, Iren Moldovan, Lajos Baricz. The book "The Kuleshov Effect", a study by Ion Stavre, Sebastian Chelu and Monica Ilie-Prica, will also be launched here.
The 22nd edition of the International Film and Television Festival SIMFEST enjoys support from the Mures County Council, the Municipality of Targu Mures and the Sangeorgiu de Mures City Hall, with the Scena Theatre, the Mihai Eminescu Cultural Centre, Astra dell'Arte and the Democratic Union of Italians (UDI) in Romania being event partners.
