More than 5,000 troops from ten NATO allied states will participate in the multinational exercise DACIAN FALL 2025 (DAFA 25), to be held on Romanian and Bulgarian territory between October 20 and November 13, the Ministry of National Defence (MApN) announced Friday.
According to the ministry, over 5,000 soldiers with 1,200 technical assets from Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Italy, Luxembourg, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania and Spain will take part in the exercise, which is planned by the Headquarters Multinational Division South-East (HQ MND-SE) in Bucharest.
The drills will be conducted simultaneously in training ranges at Cincu, Smardan, Capu Midia, Babadag, Bogata, Alba Iulia, Hanu Conachi, Giarmata and Cartisoara (Romania) and Novo Selo (Bulgaria).
DAFA 25 aims primarily at ensuring the operational integration of subordinate and affiliated structures of HQ MND-SE and marks the final stage of raising the NATO Battle Groups in Romania and Bulgaria to brigade level.
As part of the exercise, 2,400 French troops from the 7th Armoured Brigade will be deployed to Romania to train alongside the host nation and other allies. In parallel, in Bulgaria, the NATO Battle Group led by Italy as framework nation will conduct related drills integrated into DAFA 25.
Romania will contribute with the 282nd Armoured Brigade "Unirea Principatelor" and units under the Multinational Brigade South-East Command, alongside land, air, naval and cyber forces.
The first convoys of military equipment will begin entering the country on September 20 through the Curtici border crossing. Romanian authorities, together with NATO allies, have adopted measures to minimize the impact on local communities and road traffic, with most movements scheduled at night.
NATO exercises, including DAFA 25, are defensive in nature and are carried out in full compliance with Romania's international obligations, MApN stresses.
