The overnight stops in the Delta will be equipped with artistic installations this spring through a project by the Ivan Patzaichin-Mila 23 association, given that the Administration of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve (ARBDD), an institution subordinated to the Ministry of Environment, says that it will not be able to arrange these points until the middle of next year as part of a project that aims to reconfigure tourist activity in the reservation.

The project initiated by the ARBDD is in the stage of preparing the technical documentation, is financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and should be completed in the summer of next year, but the governor of the Reserve, Bogdan Bulete, told AGERPRES that the arrangement of the seven overnight points in the reservation may not be completed in the following period.

"Theoretically, the project should be completed on June 30, 2026, but there are several conditions to be met regarding completion and we will see if we will succeed on the current PNRR or use the technical documentation for submission on another financing axis. It is a beneficial project for the Danube Delta and slow tourism", mentioned Bulete.

According to him, the seven overnight stops whose GPS coordinates can be found on the ARBDD website do not yet have any infrastructure and can only be used under the conditions imposed by the regulation made public by the institution.

At the same time, the Ivan Patzaichin-Mila 23 association concluded on Monday the registration period for applications for the first creative residencies hosted by the "Ivan Patzaichin" Community Innovation Center in the village of Mila 23, "Delta Danube: Gallery in the Pond", the artists, architects and landscapers who will be announced as winners these days will arrange the overnight stops as artistic landmarks of the Delta.

"Until May [when the first edition of the 'Ivan Patzaichin' international rowing marathon takes place] we have an artistic residency project in which we bring three teams of landscape architects, architects and artists who will make installations on the Ivan's Delta route using what is there: plants, earth, wood. They will be like sculptures made of natural elements that become objectives to visit along the way. Each season we will have three new objectives", the vice president of the association, Teodor Frolu, recently stated.

Overnight permits in the Danube Delta were launched by the ARBDD last year, at the request of some organizers of kayaking and cycling trips in the reservation. An overnight permit costs 50 lei per night and its holder cannot use the same place for two consecutive nights and can only pitch their tent after 6:00 p.m., with the obligation to pack it up by 9:00 a.m.
