Romanian table tennis player Bernadette Szocs on Tuesday qualified for the round of sixteen of the women's singles event at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, after defeating Ukrainian Margarita Pesotka, 4-1 (12-14, 11-5, 12-10, 14-12, 11-4).
Szocs, seed no. 5, needed fifty minutes to seal her victory against her Ukrainian opponent.
Bernadette Szocs is the only Romanian player still in competition in the singles event. in the 3rd round she will meet Austrian Sofia Polcanova (seed no. 15), who defeated Portuguese Jieno Shao, 4-2, in the 2nd round.
Szocs (29) ranked 17th in the 2020 OG in the singles event, and 5th with the team and also 5th in the double mixed event at the same Olympics in Tokyo.
