Senators and deputies convened on Monday in a joint session to debate and vote on the motion of censure "They ruined the country and now they are forcing Romanians to pay the bill - out with the hypocritical Government" signed by AUR, POT, S.O.S. Romania and non-affiliated parliamentarians.
The opposition initiated this action after the Government led by Ilie Bolojan assumed responsibility for the first package of fiscal measures to reduce the budget deficit.
A total of 349 senators and deputies were present, out of a total of 464 parliamentarians, announced the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Sorin Grindeanu.
The motion of censure was presented last week in the joint plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate by the leader of the AUR senators, Petrisor Peiu.
The signatories of the motion of censure claim that the Government "usurped legitimate power and mocked the will to represent the Romanian people" and, as a result, "must disappear with its entire propaganda apparatus, lying and toxic".
The parliamentarians of the parties in the governing coalition, PSD, PNL, USR, UDMR, announced that they would ensure the quorum at the meeting, but would not vote.
