The Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Daniel, sent a message of condolences on Thursday, upon the death of Cardinal Lucian Muresan, in which he pays tribute to "the memory of a pious cleric who confessed his faith during the communist regime" and extends condolences to the hierarchs, clergy and faithful of the Greek Catholic Church in Romania.
"We received with sadness the news of the passing of His Eminence Cardinal Lucian Muresan, Major Archbishop of the Romanian Greek Catholic Church, at the venerable age of 94. We pay tribute to the memory of a pious cleric who confessed his faith during the communist regime and we extend our condolences to the hierarchs, clergy and faithful of the Greek Catholic Church in Romania. We pray to the Lord Jesus Christ, the Resurrection and the Life (John 11:25), to rest the soul of Cardinal Lucian Muresan in the light, peace and love of the Most Holy Trinity," the patriarch conveyed.
Cardinal Lucian Muresan, Major Archbishop of the Romanian Greek Catholic Church, and Metropolitan Bishop of the Archdiocese of Alba Iulia and Fagaras, passed away on Thursday at the age of 94.
"With regret and pain in our souls, but strengthened by hope in the mercy and comfort that come from God, we announce that His Beatitude Father Lucian Cardinal Muresan (...) has passed away to the Lord. All those who knew His Beatitude Father Cardinal Lucian, bishops, priests, consecrated persons and faithful, raise prayers for the repose of the soul of the gentle servant of the Lord, with faith in our Savior Jesus Christ, Who rose on the third day," the Archdiocese of Alba Iulia and Fagaras said in a press release.
