PNL senator Nicoleta Pauliuc says that a liberal exit from government would not only be a political mistake, but a gesture of ''maximum irresponsibility'', and the reforms that have been started must be carried to the end.

"I notice a lot of nervousness in the political space and hidden energies are being spent to pull the budget in one direction or another. It's like having material for a size S suit, which is not enough for a size M. And some want this suit to have longer sleeves, but then the pants remain shorter. Or vice versa. That's why I appeal for calm, lucidity and responsibility. I hope we have a responsible budget, built with a clear mind, not under the pressure of momentary nerves or stage-specific political calculations," Pauliuc posted on Facebook.

She also referred to the recent discussions in the public space regarding a possible exit of the PNL from the government or the resignation of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan.

"In the same context, I have seen that there is public discussion about the resignation of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, and about the exit of the PNL from the government. I want to say very clearly: in the PNL we have not discussed anything like this and I see no reason why the party would abdicate from what it promised Romanians - stability and reforms. The reforms that have been started must be carried to the end, and in a complicated regional and international context, with real economic and energy pressures, we cannot afford the luxury of political instability. An exit from the government would be not only a political mistake, but a gesture of maximum irresponsibility," the liberal argued.

According to her, the PNL has undertaken a year of difficult decisions - austerity, fiscal reforms, deficit management, difficult but necessary measures.

''You cannot ask people to bear the costs of reforms and then leave just before these efforts start to produce results. It would mean either that someone else would reap the fruits of difficult decisions we have taken, or that all the costs would be imputed to us without us having a chance to see things through to the end. Not to mention the risk that the reforms that have been started would be compromised. In addition, a possible exit of the PNL from the government would completely redraw the balance of power in the opposition and would open up a direct competition for the same right-wing electorate, with the risk of fragmentation and cannibalization of votes. Last but not least, no one can easily take the prospect of, through a hasty decision, paving the way for a toxic governing formula for Romania, in which AUR would enter the Executive. "My call is simple: let's put momentary impulses aside, judge responsibly and do what is right for Romania. In such moments, it doesn't matter who wins a political dispute. All that matters is who has the maturity to put the country first," is the message of the liberal parliamentarian.
