Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan stated that the funding application for the SAFE programme will be on the agenda of Monday's meeting of the Supreme Council of National Defence (CSAT).
He added that the Government is completing all necessary procedures on Friday to prepare the funding application.
"This funding application will be on the agenda of Monday's CSAT meeting, and after its discussion and approval, it will be submitted to the European Commission next week. Over the following two months, the application will be evaluated, so we estimate that, at the latest by the end of the first quarter of next year, we will know exactly which projects will be financed through this programme," the prime minister told a press conference at Victoria Palace of Government on Friday.
Ilie Bolojan specified that the application totals 16.6 billion euros, of which 4.2 billion euros are allocated to infrastructure and over 12 billion euros are earmarked for equipment for the army, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and other forces within the national defence system.
"Regarding transport, the most significant allocation, over 90%, concerns the motorway endpoints leading from the Republic of Moldova that previously had no funding. This includes the connection from Pascani, via Iasi, to Ungheni, to the Republic of Moldova, as well as the connection to Ukraine: Pascani, via Suceava, to Siret. This means that the works currently underway on the section between Bucharest and Pascani can continue in the coming years, so that by 2029-2030 these motorway or expressway sections will be completed, connecting northern Romania to the south, both on the Ukraine-Bucharest route and the Republic of Moldova-Iasi-Bucharest route," Bolojan added.
