Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan met on Thursday with the Ministers of Health, Education and Environment in order to analyse the projects to benefit funding through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
The talks were also aimed at identifying some funding sources for the mature investments that cannot be included in the PNRR, an Executive release mentioned, agerpres reports.
According to the quoted source Ilie Bolojan underscored that through the PNRR, the projects for which works have already begun and will be completed by August 31, 2026, as well as those representing investment targets committed by Romania under this European mechanism, will continue to be financed.
For the other mature projects, the Government will seek funding solutions through the national budget or other European programmes.
"Maintaining a high level of investments is a priority in order to create long-term development conditions and to ensure economic growth. The only measure we can take now is to finance investments from any available resources. We have a national dashboard which includes all prepared projects, their progress status and all elements necessary for an objective analysis. Each minister will establish the portfolio of priority projects and their scheduling. Whether we are considering the construction or modernization of healthcare and educational facilities, or the development of water and sewage networks, it is essential that, within a year, Romania and our citizens can see in everyday life that the funds from the PNRR have been wisely invested," PM Bolojan stated.
In the healthcare area, projects for the construction and development of new hospitals, as well as the equipping of family doctors' offices, outpatient clinics and intensive care units, have been analyzed.
In the education sector, the discussions focused on the construction, modernization and renovation of student dormitories and university campuses, the equipping of educational institutions, as well as programmes aimed at combating school dropout and supporting children and youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds.
In the environment area, the focus was placed on flood defense projects, the implementation of water cadastre and wastewater management.
The working meeting was also attended by Vice Prime Ministers Marian Neacsu and Tanczos Barna, Health Minister Alexandru Rogobete, Education and Research Minister Daniel David and Environment, Waters and Forests Minister Diana Buzoianu.
After this initial round of meetings, consultations will continue in the coming period to prioritize funding, together with the other ministries coordinating reforms and investments within the PNRR
