Veterans of theatres of operations are among the heroes who show what it means to place the interests of the country and society above personal interest, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan said on Tuesday.
He conveyed a message on the occasion of the Day of Veterans of Theatres of Operations to the soldiers who have contributed and continue to contribute to Romania's security and to the writing of its recent history.
'Today we pay tribute to the heroes whose sacrifice laid the foundation of the Romanian state and to all the soldiers who, through their dedication and professionalism, through the missions they have carried out, contribute to Romania's security and to the writing of our recent history. On 11 November 1918, the Armistice between the Allied Powers and Germany was signed and came into effect, bringing the First World War to an end. On the same day, 85 years later, Second Lieutenant Iosif Silviu Fogarasi fell in the line of duty in the theatre of operations in Afghanistan. Romania has lost a total of 31 soldiers in missions in theatres of operations and over 200 have been wounded. Gratitude and respect for their sacrifice,' Bolojan wrote on the Government's Facebook page.
According to the prime minister, their example of action, dignity and courage continues to inspire and guide.
'They are among the heroes who have shown us what it means to put the interests of the country and society above personal interest. They have proven that when you fight for tomorrow, you build safety and trust for future generations. And they constantly remind us that we cannot prosper, neither individually nor as a society, without the security of our country. I thank the veterans of theatres of operations for their contribution to what Romania is today: a free, safe and democratic country,' Ilie Bolojan emphasised.
