Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Friday at Sambata de Sus, Brasov County, that despite the political discussions between the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the National Liberal Party (PNL) regarding the calendar of elections, the government will hold, because there is an obligation towards Romanians since the formation of the governing coalition.

"We have a governing coalition, we should have a common approach to the elections, we should transform this governing coalition into a political coalition, which did not happen (...). I think I was quite clear. I, at this moment, am the prime minister of Romania, I do not renege on my word to the political parties and especially to democracy. I said that I will not announce the calendar until I have the calendar fully validated, as is normal in a governing coalition. We have validated that calendar, there is no such thing as we will change it depending on how the new poll looks (...). The Romanian government will hold because we have an obligation to the Romanians when we took it, when we made this coalition," Ciolacu told a news conference.

He added that through the PSD-PNL governing coalition, Romania has a consolidated democracy and was convinced that PNL's Nicolae Ciuca will also agree to maintain stability.

"Moreover, I remember that the Social Democratic Party, all my colleagues, agreed that Mr. Nicolae Ciuca should be prime minister for one year and seven months through a political agreement. If we violate political agreements, we throw Romania into political instability at the whim of a party. I think we are starting to lose precisely what we have gained a lot through this gentlemen's agreement between Marcel Ciolacu and Nicolae Ciuca, which for the first time was respected in Romania. In other words, we have entered another era of democracy in Romania. Romania has a consolidated democracy, and I am firmly convinced that we will both preserve this hard-won thing after 30 years," Ciolacu said.

He also thanked his colleagues from both parties for their approach during the recent electioneering.
