The Romanian Gendarmerie has gained the trust of Romanians for the courage and seriousness with which it responded promptly and efficiently where it was needed, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said in a message on the Romanian Gendarmerie's 175th anniversary on April 3.
"With responsibilities in guaranteeing the safety of the citizens, their fundamental rights, public and private property, the Romanian Gendarmerie has gained the trust of Romanians for the courage and seriousness with which it has responded promptly and efficiently where it was needed. Whether it was about removing the consequences of natural or man-made disasters, or the safety of citizens and maintaining public order and peace, the gendarmes have always been by the people's side. The way they responded last year in support of the families in Galati and Vaslui affected by the floods, from saving lives and assets, transporting food and, subsequently, helping them return to their homes, is just an emblematic example of professionalism and empathy."
According to Ciolacu, "the solid training proven in international cooperation missions has brought the Romanian gendarmes recognition and appreciation at European level and has significantly contributed to strengthening Romania's image as an active and credible partner."
"The new challenges continue to make it necessary to increase the degree of public safety and strengthen the feeling of security among citizens, which implies continuous institutional improvement for taking over new tasks and missions. The Romanian government continues to support the process of modernisation and acquisitions of the institution, with a focus on anticipation and prevention, in order to provide the gendarmes with the necessary intervention levers to ensure the safety of citizens. I wish the employees of the Romanian Gendarmerie good health and successful missions. Happy Gendarmerie Day!" Ciolacu also said.
