Prime minister Marcel Ciolacu said in Constanta on Wednesday, when asked about military endowment for the naval component, that at European level there is an integrated plan for corvettes and decisions will be taken in the coming period so that a large part of the Defence Ministry's equipment will be produced on the territory of the country, through the Romanian defence industry.
"You know very well how long it took for a defence minister to take the decision to cancel that tender (for the purchase of corvettes). You know the whole story better than I do. Moreover, in the meantime, at European level there is an integrated plan for corvettes. I am not hiding the fact that I have also spoken to Prime Minister Meloni, because we know that there are two shipyards where the Italian state is the shareholder, I have also spoken to the minister of defence and we will take decisions in the coming period (...), so that a large part of the Defence Ministry's endowment will be made on the territory (of the country ed.n.) and by the Romanian industry," said Marcel Ciolacu.
Ciolacu also referred to the collaboration between the ministries of Economy and Defence and added that in the naval area some shipyards already have orders.
"As you have seen, in the whole defence industry, if a year ago we were talking about layoffs or strikes or financial problems of the companies, now there is no more such problem. In the shipbuilding sector, some shipyards already have orders (...). We are not hiding the fact that both minister Grindeanu and I had a discussion with DP World representatives regarding the Mangalia shipyard. We are trying to invest and especially what is necessary to equip the Romanian Army to be done largely on Romanian territory," said the head of the government.
Prime minister Marcel Ciolacu participated in Constanta, on Wednesday, in the event "DP WORLD-20 years of efficiency and innovation in Romania" and in the putting into operation of the new port infrastructure investment within the National Company for the Administration of the Maritime Port of Constanta.
