Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, the national leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), said on Saturday in Cluj-Napoca that he does not believe that additional legislation is needed for President Klaus Iohannis to be able to run for a parliamentary seat while still in office.
"I'm sorry to disappoint you. I believe that in political life, as in executive life, it is good to own your actions, not to hide behind decisions; Romanians do not believe in such approaches. We will convene the National Standing Bureau on Monday, to make a decision together with my colleagues, as is correct. Together with the deputy PM, we also looked very carefully at the observations of the Legislative Council and we put our specialists, who have expertise, to work to make us a point of view today. At first glance (...) there is no need for additional legislation, that is if Mr President wants to run, he can run. (...) I'm sorry for my coalition colleagues, maybe they should have gone deeper or consulted, got out of their own circle, consulted with more specialists. If the specialists' conclusion is the same as the observations of the Legislative Council, we will make a decision. If not, we will make another decision," said Ciolacu, when asked how PSD will vote on the bill tabled by the Nationl Liberal Party (PNL) that allows President Klaus Iohannis to run in the parliamentary election before his term of office is up, Agerpres informs.
