Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu on Thursday welcomed a delegation led by the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Odile Renaud Basso, on a visit to Bucharest for the preparation of the next EBRD Country Strategy for Romania.
Ciolacu commended EBRD for its readiness to support the implementation of structural reforms, according to a press statement released by the government.
"Romania continues to count on EBRD for support, including from the point of view of the essential role it plays in the implementation of programmes running on non-repayable European funds. We have a solid partnership, which is reflected in the significant investment that this financial organisation is making in Romania, which exceeded EUR 700 million in 2024, in a record number of 44 projects," the prime minister said.
During the meeting, they discussed Romania's efforts to develop a sustainable energy sector, by increasing energy efficiency in small and medium-sized enterprises and large enterprises, projects in the field of green energy (offshore wind and solar photovoltaic), strengthening the transport infrastructure on the vertical corridor (with Moldova and Bulgaria), construction of water-sewer infrastructure in partnership with local administrations, as well as supporting municipal infrastructure projects with significant social and economic benefits.
"Expressing the full availability of the Romanian side for the consultations that will follow within this process, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu commended EBRD for its willingness to support the implementation of structural reforms, in terms of the expertise it has in the field of public-private partnership and the essential role it plays in the implementation of programmes running on non-repayable European funds, through technical assistance, loans or other financial instruments for the implementation of major infrastructure, environment, energy, transport and digital transformation projects that Romania has undertaken under its National Recovery and Resilience Plan."
Also attending were Deputy Prime Minister Marian Neacsu, Minister of Finance Tanczos Barna, Minister of Transport Sorin Grindeanu, Minister of European Investment and Projects Marcel Bolos, Minister of Energy Sebastian Burduja, Head of the Prime Minister's Chancellery Stefan-RaduOprea.
The EBRD delegation also included Charlotte Ruhe, Director-General for Central and South-Eastern Europe, Victoria Zinchuk, Director for Romania, and Mihaela Mihailescu, Deputy Director for Romania.
