Romania's Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos was welcomed on Wednesday by the head of the Dutch Government, Mark Rutte, at Cathuis, the latter's official residence in The Hague.
PM Ciolos said the meeting was established as far back as last December, when the two officials had an informal talk at a European Council meeting. "I want us to discuss topics on the European agenda, particularly migration. It is very important to us for this project to succeed and to stop illegal migration and have EU's external borders protected, because, by protecting the borders, we also protect ourselves and avoid possible migration routes going through Romania," Ciolos said back then.
He added that the discussion agenda will also include bilateral cooperation, "because the Netherlands is an important economic partner to Romania both in terms of commercial exchanges and in terms of Dutch investment in several areas." Moreover, during the discussions the two PMs were also to tackle Romania's accession to the border-free Schengen Area. Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos on Wednesday payed an official visit to the Netherlands, where, besides the meeting with PM Rutte, he will go to the Dutch Parliament to discuss with several parliament members and in the evening he will meet members of the Romanian community of the Netherlands.
