PM Dancila decides to set up the National Committee on Waste

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila has decided to set up the National Committee on Waste, as an inter-ministerial body to be presided by the Minister of Environment.

According to the decision published on Monday in the Official Journal, this Committee will include representatives of several ministries - the Ministry of Environment, Regional Development and Public Administration, the European Funds Ministry, the Ministry of Finance, as well as the National Regulatory Authority for Community Services and Public Utilities, the National Environmental Protection Agency and the Environmental Fund Administration. 

The main objectives of this Committee will be: "the identification of the actions needed for the implementation of the EC Directive 2008/98 of the European Parliament and of the Council of November 19 2018 on waste, and repealing certain directives; the recovery of the gaps existing at national level, in reaching the objectives set by the European directives in waste management; the implementation of the priority governance measures stipulated by the National Waste Management Plan, in managing municipal waste." 

According to the same decision, participating in this Committee's meetings will also be, as guests, the representatives of other public entities, specialists and representatives of the civil society. 

Moreover, the Committee has the obligation to present, on a monthly basis and upon the PM's request, reports regarding the meeting of the objectives for which it was created in the first place.
