Prime Minister Viorica Dancila declared, on the occasion of the visit paid to the Grand Mosque of Muscat, that in Romania there is an important historical Muslim community that enjoys full rights of freedom of worship and lives in harmony with the representatives of other religious cults, according to a press release of the Romanian Government.
"In the context of the official visit carried out to the Sultanate of Oman, during the period of 3-5 November 2018, the Romanian Prime Minister, Viorica Dancila, visited and signed the Books of Honour of the National Museum of the Sultanate of Oman, the Grand Mosque of the Qaboos Sultanate and the Royal Opera of Muscat, emblematic monuments from the capital of the Oman state. In the context of the visit to the Grand Mosque of Muscat, the Romanian Prime Minister appreciated the greatness of the edifice and showed that in Romania there is an important historical Muslim community, that enjoys full rights of freedom of worship and lives in harmony with the representatives of other religious cults," the cited source shows.
According to her, one of the most beautiful modern mosques in the world, that combines varied Islamic architectural styles from the Middle East and Oman, the Grand Mosque of the Sultanate of Qaboos is known for the fact that it holds the largest handmade carpet, a single piece (70x60m) and the largest chandelier in the world, glistening with 24-carat gold.
"Established through a Royal Decree in 2013 and inaugurated on 30 of July 206, the National Museum of the Sultanate of Oman presents the history and tradition of the country, through the 7,000 exhibits, reunited in the 12 thematic galleries. Taking note of the historical track of the exhibits, which present the evolution from the oldest human settlement in the Oman Peninsula, approximately 2 million years ago, until now, the Romanian Prime Minister expressed her deep respect for the history of the State of Oman and saluted the interactive way of presenting it. In context, the head of the Romanian Executive brought to mind the historical importance of 2018 for Romania, due to celebrate, on 1 December, 100 years since the Greater Union," the cited source mentions.
According to the Romanian Prime Minister, on the occasion of the visit to the Royal Opera of Muscat, the first opera from the Arabian Peninsula, whose construction began in 2007, by order of His Majesty, the Sultan of Qaboos, the Romanian Prime Minister voiced her appreciation for the special architecture of the building, emblematic for the modern Oman style, reminding, in context, that Romanian soprano Angela Gheorghiu held a show in Muscat, on the stage of the same place of culture. She expressed the interest of the Romanian state in being present in the Omani cultural life, within the military and traditional music festivals, organized and hosted annually by the Royal Opera.
At the end of the visit, Her Highness Sayyida Dr. Mona bint Fahad Al Said, Assistant Vice Chancellor for External Cooperation at Sultan Qaboos University in Muscat, offered a dinner in honour of Prime Minister Viorica Dancila, the press release further shows.
