PM Shinzo Abe assures that Japan's Gov't will endorse Bucharest development projects

Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe gave assurances on Tuesday, during talks with Mayor Gabriela Firea, that the Government which he leads will endorse the development projects of Bucharest, mentioning his hope for a future collaboration in more areas of interest for the Capital, according to a release of Bucharest City Hall (PMB).

"General Mayor Gabriela Firea, paid a visit today with Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to the Japanese Garden of the Regele Mihai Park [Herastaru Park], which was restored at the end of 2017 by Bucharest City Hall, through the Lakes, Parks and Recreations Administration [ALPAB]. General Mayor Gabriela Firea welcomed the Japanese Prime Minister who wanted to tour the garden of the Regele Mihai Park, explaining that specialists with the City Hall had an excellent collaboration with experts of Japan's Embassy in Bucharest, who granted specialist technical assistance to restoring these thematic garden," the release reveals.

According to the quoted source, the two officials also talked about the memorandum signed by the Bucharest City Hall with Japanese company Itochu Corporation for updating the Centralised Heat Supply System of Bucharest. Thus, Gabriela Firea thanked the Prime Minister for funding the investment in the heat supply system which will be ensured from a loan granted by the Japanese Government.

"Prime Minister Shinzo Abe gave assurances that the Government which he leads will endorse the development projects of the Capital and hopes for a future collaboration in several areas of interest of Bucharest, one of the priority areas consisting in ensuring the people's safety in the field of anti-seismic protection," the Bucharest City Hall release informs.

According to the memorandum concluded between the PMB and Itochu Corporation company, the implementation of Japanese solutions will be both analysed for the current electricity and heating plants (CET) units of Bucharest and for the three new units in the northeastern part of the Capital, a very poor area in terms of transport and distribution of hot water. The costs of this feasibility study will be covered by a grant from the Government of Japan (through the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry - METI), intermediated by Itochu Corporation.
