The Extraordinary Congress of the PNL (National Liberal Party) gathers on Saturday at the Palace of Parliament to elect the new party leadership, in the presence of 1,200 delegates.
According to the PNL, Ilie Bolojan, currently the party's interim president and prime minister, has filed his candidacy for the position of party president.
The vote will be secret for the positions of party president, first vice presidents, president of the Court of Arbitration and president of the National Commitee of Reviewers and Censors.
The validation of the regional vice presidents, who will become members of the National Executive Bureau, will also take place during the Congress. In this case, the vote will be open.
The Extraordinary Congress of the PNL was convened by the party's National Council, which took place on June 28. The PNL National Council approved at that time the modifications to the party's statute. Thus, the mandate of the PNL leadership would be reduced to two years. Among the changes are the decentralisation of the decision in choosing representatives in the party's leadership structures, rewarding political and administrative performance, responsibility in managing leadership positions in the party, eliminating the motion as a defining element of the candidacy for the position of PNL president, Agerpres informs.
The Executive Bureau is made up of the president, four first vice presidents, a secretary general, 19 regional representatives, eight of whom are vice presidents, elected according to a regulation approved by the National Political Bureau and validated by the Congress. The president and the four first vice presidents will be elected directly within the Congress, and the secretary general will be subsequently proposed to the Congress by the party president and approved by the National Political Bureau.
