PNL (National Liberal Party), USR (Save Romania Union), PMP (People's Movement Party) and the non-affiliated Deputies from Pro Romania organisation on Wednesday filed a proposal to modify the Chamber Regulations, in the sense that the vote of three thirds of the Deputies will be enough to sack this forum's Speaker from office, seeking thus to remove Liviu Dragnea from this position, the leader of the group of Liberals, Raluca Turcan, announced on Wednesday.

"PNL, together with the USR, PMP and the non-affiliated Deputies from Pro Romania have submitted today the proposal to modify the Regulations of the Chamber of Deputies, so that we will be able to remove the Speaker of this forum by a vote of three thirds of the Deputies. This is a legislative proposal that we also had in the previous session and it got rejected, but, in the context in which it became more and more clear that the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies is also the person to be blamed for discrediting Romania's image abroad, for he is the person who uses the first legislative forum in Romania in his personal interest, we believe that we must have a real debate again on the possibility of removing Mr. Liviu Dragnea from office as Speaker of the Deputies' Chamber," stated Turcan.

She said she was hoping that this time the debate will be "more substantial."

"We are hoping to make it so that other parliamentary groups too, besides the ones that proposed the Speaker of the Deputies' Chamber initially, will be able to vote for the removal for, obviously, we need a majority to vote in favour, in order to be sure that the proposal will pass," said Raluca Turcan.

According to the current provisions of the Regulations, the Speaker of the Deputies' Chamber can only be removed upon the proposal of the parliamentary group that proposed him in the first place.
