PNL (National Liberal Party) leader Florin Citu on Tuesday stated that he has no worries related to the notification by USR (Save Romania Union) of the Venice Commission regarding the project on the abolition of the Section for Investigating Magistrates (SIIJ), as there is already an opinion on this topic.

"It was already notified, even if without the consent of the Prime Minister. I closed my eyes then. I know that this bill takes into account the opinion of the Venice Commission, which we received then. I have no worries. I trust the solutions of my colleagues (...). We need to see if this project meets the recommendations of the CVM. If it does, we will move forward. So far it did. The version that the Ministry of Justice proposed will be presented to our European partners who wrote the CVM and made the recommendations. if they approve this versions it means that the topic is closed," Citu stated in the Senate, Agerpres.ro informs.

USR leader Dacian Ciolos appreciates that the project to abolish the SIIJ, initiated by the Minister of Justice, Catalin Predoiu, leads to a "re-establishment" of the Special Section.

According to Ciolos, a request from the USR was adopted in the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), so that the Venice Commission will be notified to issue a point of view on the independence of magistrates from Romania after the exclusion from the judiciary of judge Cristi Danilet and the publication of the new project to abolish the SIIJ.
