National leader of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Nicolae Ciuca said on Monday that the vote of the PNL leadership on the government's taking responsibility for the package of tax measures "confirms the decision to engage the responsibility of the party for the continuation of governing, to ensure the political stability of the country."
"Today's vote on the government taking responsibility confirms the decision of the National Liberal Party to take responsibility for the continuation of governing, for ensuring the political stability of the country. As such, the fact that we discussed, the fact that we are discussing, the fact that there are debates within the party shows that we are a living party, a party that has subjects that it puts on the table (...) each of us has arguments and counterarguments, which does not mean that, in the end, we do not have an approach that has a decision behind it, and that decision aligns the whole party," Ciuca said after a meeting of the PNL leadership when told that there are some voices inside PNL who supported leaving the government, criticising the fiscal measures and the association with PSD, agerpres reports.
"(...) For the party I guarantee everything, for certain people in the party we cannot guarantee. Everyone has a way of behaving, a way of reacting, according to their own analyses, their own conceptions, but it is clear that, if a decision was made at the party level, all party members will have to follow that decision. It is a decision made by the PNL National Standing Bureau (BPN.) Party discipline must work as it has worked so far. Where it has not worked, everyone must bear the rigours of internal discipline," added Ciuca.
He said that in such case there will be penalties. "Yes, there is such thing as party discipline. (...) I said and I will continue to repeat these matters out of conviction: it is important to have these discussions, these debates in which everyone come up to share their point of view; but after the discussions are over and we reach out for the leadership forum of the National Liberal Party and we put the decision to a vote and the decision is approved, then everyone has to proceed to implement the decision. Those who do not fall in line with this decision will suffer, as I said, the measures established in the operating regulations of the National Liberal Party, and there is no reason not to apply them," said Ciuca.
