A new threat message regarding a potential attack was sent on Wednesday morning, via email, to several schools in Bucharest and across the country.
'The message was sent from the same email address as the previous messages. Both yesterday and today, the Romanian Police were notified by several educational institutions in the Capital and in various counties that they had received threat messages, which, as a new element, also had some photographs attached,' Romanian Police spokesperson Georgian Dragan said in a phone interview with Digi24 private television broadcaster.
He pointed out that, following checks carried out together with the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI), indications suggest the message is false, but authorities are continuing their investigation, and the investigators already have several leads.
'The threat message was received from the same email address. Therefore, the person who sent it is the same. We currently have several leads under investigation,' Dragan added.
'Both yesterday, 23 September, and today, 24 September, the Romanian Police were notified that several institutions had received a threat message on their official email addresses. The relevant authorities are conducting specific checks to accurately determine the situation. Preliminary data from investigations carried out by the Police, in coordination with the Romanian Intelligence Service, do not indicate that the threat is real,' the Romanian Police informed in a press release on Wednesday.
The counties where such messages were received include Arad, Bacau, Bihor, Bistrita-Nasaud, Braila, Brasov, Buzau, Caras-Severin, Galati, Hunedoara, Ialomita, Iasi, Ilfov, Mehedinti, Olt, Prahova, Salaj, Satu Mare, Suceava, Teleorman, Timis, Tulcea, Vaslui and Valcea.
'We mention that the Romanian Police and other public order structures act constantly to ensure a safe environment. The safety of all citizens is a priority, and the authorities treat every such report with seriousness. We reiterate that, every day, police officers are on the ground and carry out operations to protect the community, and citizens' reports are essential in holding lawbreakers accountable,' the Inspectorate General of the Romanian Police (IGPR) also informed.
