The Young People's Party (POT) is summoning Minister of the Interior Catalin Predoiu to Parliament to give explanations regarding the searches carried out at the home of Calin Georgescu's campaign manager.

POT leader Anamaria Gavrila said in a statement on Tuesday that Minister Catalin Predoiu is using "Securitate police practices" for political purposes and must offer explanations after "abusively deploying masked police to the home of Calin Georgescu's campaign manager."

"It is mind-blowing how old politicians trample on democracy and the rights of Romanians. Today, Liberal Minister Predoiu acted exactly like a Securitate officer and sent masked men to raid the home of Calin Georgescu's campaign manager. They had no legitimate reason for this action," Gavrila claimed, adding that "law enforcement is not a political instrument, Mr. Predoiu."

"The Young People's Party firmly condemns and fights all forms of abuse of power against Romanians," the statement said.

Investigators conducted searches on Tuesday at the homes of Calin Georgescu's close associates, including his campaign manager Radu Pally.

Georgescu confirmed in a Facebook message that raids also targeted the headquarters of the "Ancestral Land" Association, where the former presidential candidate is a founding member.

According to judicial sources, the searches are being carried out as part of the case opened in December 2024 by the General Prosecutor's Office, which is looking at possible law violations during Calin Georgescu's electoral campaign.
