Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan declared on Saturday that we live in a complicated period when peace can no longer be taken for granted, and defense no longer depends on troops and equipment alone, but on the entire society.
"We are living through a complicated period today, both at home and internationally. Domestically, we must put our public finances in order, put our economy on a healthier footing, and correct injustices. Externally, the war in Ukraine has changed what we considered was stable in our region. Peace is no longer a fact. All around us, we see how classic weapons are being combined with new forms of conflict - disinformation, manipulation, cyber attacks. This means that defense is no longer just about troops and equipment, but about the entire society," Prime Minister Bolojan said in remarks delivered in Carei on the occasion of Romanian Army Day, according AGERPRES.
He added that the army must be prepared and strengthened, which also requires appropriate financial allocations.
"For our country, the insurance policy is the ability to defend ourselves and have a professional army. Therefore, an important goal in this period is to strengthen the army, the defense industry and critical infrastructure and to invest more in training people and technology. Therefore, an important part of the budget will be allocated for training, modern equipment and the protection of critical infrastructure, because Romania cannot afford to be unprepared," Bolojan also said.
Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan participated on Saturday, on Romanian Army Day, in the ceremony organized at the 'Glory to the Romanian Soldier' memorial ensemble in Carei.
