President Nicusor Dan on Sunday marked the 110th anniversary of the consecration of the Cathedral of the Armenian Archdiocese "Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel" in Bucharest and the re-consecration of the holy place, by saying that the dialogue between the different ethnic groups has been constantly promoted by the Armenian community.

The message was presented by presidential advisor Ludovic Orban.

"Today, at the re-consecration of the Cathedral of the Armenian Archdiocese "Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel", we share a moment of joy, gratitude and deep emotion, occasioned by the celebration of 110 years since the consecration of this sacred place, loaded with history. Many generations of Armenians have crossed its threshold and found under its dome support, consolation and the strength to carry forward their identity and spiritual heritage. When we say Armenia, we think of a country tested by suffering, but also of an example of strength, faith and dignity. In a world where extremism and intolerance are reappearing in society, the Armenian tragedy reminds us that we must firmly condemn any forms of manifestation of hatred and xenophobia. Armenians have resisted intellectually and spiritually, opposing oppression with their patience, tenacity, fidelity and respect for the traditions of our ancestors," the message reads.

According to the head of state, "in Romania, the Armenian community has contributed to the enrichment of the national heritage through science and the arts and has constantly promoted dialogue between ethnic groups".

"Romania, a country of confluences, is stronger thanks to these shared values and the spirit of solidarity of its minorities. More than a place of worship, the Armenian Cathedral in Bucharest becomes a testament of hope, an emblematic place where the memory of the Armenians, the beauty of liturgical art and the reconciling faith come together. It is an expression of the balance and wisdom with which the Armenians have preserved their identity and contributed to the development of a modern and pluralistic society. The Armenians have given Romania elites, people of culture, schools and an ethic of dialogue and mutual respect. It is a lesson of civilisation that we have a duty to cherish and carry forward. Thank you for everything you offer to society, for your loyalty to Romania and for the values you promote and that unite us in a European spirit," added Nicusor Dan.
