President Nicusor Dan declared on Tuesday, in Timisoara, that there is a lot of exaggeration in the public space regarding a possible decision by the Constitutional Court (CCR) to reject the law on magistrates' pensions for which the Government has assumed responsibility in Parliament.
"The CCR's decision on this matter is far exaggerated, in the sense that there is almost unanimity in society that it is abnormal that in any possible system, now we are talking about Justice, the pension should be equal to the salary, because you want to have people who produce for society, and if you give them the pension as a salary, you stimulate them to leave the system, not to produce for society. Based on this fact, the Government has made a law for which it has assumed responsibility and which it has strived to make as solid as possible, analyzing the previous decisions of the Constitutional Court. If it happens that it has problems, there is the legitimacy of both society and the coalition to make a law that does not have problems. So I do not see a problem", stated President Nicusor Dan.
President Nicusor Dan stressed that the Bolojan Government has achieved its assumed objective of reducing the budget deficit in the short term, so that the deficit will be 8.4% at the end of 2025, with the measures already taken.
The head of state estimates that the deficit will be 6.5% of GDP next year, towards 6%, and Romania will thus be on schedule by the end of 2026.
"Romania had to reduce the deficit. This was the short-term goal that this Government assumed. This objective was met, in the sense that the deficit for 2025 will be 8.4%, with the measures already taken. The deficit for 2026 is estimated at 6.5% of GDP and still depends on some measures to lower it to 6%. We are on schedule for this objective and there is no risk of slippage. And the fact that the rating agencies have confirmed us is proof of what I am saying. The question remains whether other things could have been done with the same amount of money. This is a debate of society", said President Nicusor Dan.
