Magistrates' pensions have become the topic of a "political campaign", and the prosecutors and judges became "the scapegoat", president Nicusor Dan said on Tuesday.

"Because of this political campaign, they (magistrates - editor's note) have become a kind of scapegoat and that is not normal," said the head of state.

The president is meeting with the leaders of the governing coalition on Tuesday, to discuss the topic of magistrates' pensions.

The meeting is taking place at Cotroceni Palace, according to the presidential agenda.

Last Friday, the head of state said that discussions on this issue are approaching "a compromise".

"From the information I have, the compromise is quite close. (...) There are several aspects under discussion and obviously I will not tell you now what the position of each of the parties is, what they told me. (...). We will very likely have a meeting next week, on several issues related to the current activity, and will also initiate the discussion on the 2026 budget," said Nicusor Dan at the time.

Regarding the risk of losing money from the PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) because of this milestone, the president said that "we must be optimistic" in this regard.

President Nicusor Dan laid a wreath at the Corneliu Coposu Monument in Bucharest on Tuesday, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the death of the former National Peasants' Party leader.
